Look at Other Flipbooks for Inspiration
What to do when you're fresh out of ideas.
Hi,
So, you want to make a flipbook—maybe it’ll be a submission for Flipbook Fest 2024 or a gift you’ll give someone for the holidays—that means you have a deadline coming and it’s time to get started. 😊
But what do you do if you’re fresh out of ideas? Try watching other people’s animation and get inspired!
For example, in this video I posted in August, I talked about how impressive the ooze animation in Raggedy Ann and Andy was, and then I showed my own oozy looking flipbook animation.
If you’re looking for more ideas and inspiration, the previous Flipbook Fest videos on my channel are a great place to look. Watch what other people have done and write down any ideas that come to you.
You don’t want to outright copy someone, but get inspired and look for ideas. You can even take a similar concept or idea and then put your own spin on it or take it in a different direction.
Give it a try and mostly just have fun!
Until next week, stay creative—Andy
P.S. - It can help to look at other people’s physical flipbooks and study them frame by frame, to see how the animation works. You can pick up physical copies of some of my flipbooks or grab yourself a Flipbook Kit at Andymation.com.
